Joy Smith, PT/owner

Hi! I’m Joy Dorinski Smith, Physical Therapist, and I am so glad you are taking the time to get to know me and why I am passionate about delivering exceptional physical therapy to you.

I’m dedicated to serving kids, teens and adults with scoliosis, posture issues, muscle & joint pain.

I’ve been a physical therapist for over 26 years, and am licensed in both Florida and Georgia. I received a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Marquette University in 1994. My early professional years were spent working at Curative Rehabilitation Center in Milwaukee , WI and then I moved to South Florida where I worked at HealthSouth Sunrise Rehabilitation Hosptial until 2007. My husband had a job opportunity which is what moved us to Tallahassee where I continued to work for HealthSouth until December 2017. When HealthSouth closed all of of their out-patient divisions,  I found myself with one door closed and another opening: entrepreneurship!

In January 2018, I began digging into the Joy of Therapy with my mobile practice and then transitioned to a brick and mortar presence in 2019.

Some clients refer to me as “Magic Joy”. Yet there’s no magic – just loads of training, some sweat, thousands of hands-on patient care hours and a genuine desire to help others heal.

My expertise lies in treating spinal conditions and pain, specifically scoliosis, posture issues, and nagging, chronic pain. I use movement and breath to restore strength and decrease your pain. I strive to  figure out where your pain is coming from and then get you on the path to pain-free living. My continuing education has primarily been through the Institute of Physical Art, Mary Massery breathing courses and the Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School.

The thing I’m most passionate about is serving a need for superior care for adolescents and adults with scoliosis. I am the first and most experienced Schroth-Barcelona C2 Certified Physical Therapist in the Florida Panhandle.

This unique scoliosis stabilization technique helps decrease pain and improve posture , with or without bracing, depending on the degree of the curve. As your PT, I’ll coordinate and advocate for you with your physician and orthotist to help you get the best care.

When I’m not busy serving , I am at home being present with my husband and 3 kids. I enjoy biking, exercising, singing and volunteering in my community.

I believe that if you choose your doctor, then why shouldn’t you choose your physical therapist?

You deserve to not be limited by pain or a diagnosis.
