Joy Smith, PT/Owner
Hi! I’m Joy Dorinski Smith, Physical Therapist, and I am so glad you are taking the time to get to know me and why I am passionate about delivering exceptional physical therapy to you.
I’m dedicated to supporting kids, teens and adults with scoliosis, posture issues, muscle & joint pain.
I’m a licensed physical therapist in Florida and have specialized in scoliosis for over 7 years. I received a Bachelors of Science in Physical Therapy degree from Marquette University in 1994. My early professional years were spent working at Curative Rehabilitation Center in Milwaukee , WI and then moved to South Florida where I worked at HealthSouth Sunrise Rehabilitation Hosptial until 2007. My husband had a job opportunity which is what moved us to Tallahassee where I continued to work for HealthSouth until December 2017. When HealthSouth closed all of of their out-patient divisions, I found myself with one door closed and another opening: entrepreneurship!
In January 2018, I began digging into the Joy of Therapy with my mobile practice and then transitioned to a brick and mortar presence in 2019.
Some clients refer to me as “Magic Joy”. Yet there’s no magic – just loads of training, some sweat, thousands of hands-on patient care hours and a genuine desire to help others heal.
My expertise lies in treating spinal conditions and pain, specifically scoliosis, posture issues, and nagging, chronic pain. I use movement and skilled manual therapy to restore strength and decrease your pain. I strive to figure out where your pain is coming from and then get you on the path to pain-free living. My continuing education has primarily been through the Institute of Physical Art, Mary Massery breathing courses, Postural Restoration Institute, Barcelona Scoliosis Physical Therapy School and the Scientific Exercise Approach to Scoliosis.
On the personal side, I’m grateful for the unwavering support of my husband, who has been a steady and essential foundation behind my business. He’s also the one that cleverly came up with the name, ‘Joy of Therapy!’
I believe no one should have to live with chronic pain, and I’m committed to doing everything I can to help you find relief and live in your best body ever!
